Build on your expertise as a qualified nurse. You’ll specialise as a district nurse on this practical course. If you’re a qualified adult nurse, this qualification will enable you to specialise as a district nurse and register as a specialist practitioner in district nursing and community practitioner nurse prescribing with the Nursing Midwifery Council (NMC). As part of this course, you’ll:
- Prepare to use your discretion and judgement to make high-level clinical decisions in the management and provision of quality care
- Learn how to apply your knowledge and practical experience in-line with the NMC's core standards for safe and effective specialist practice. This will include clinical practice, care and programme management, clinical practice leadership and clinical practice development

Modules
Modules may include: Getting it right for adults with complex care needs; profesional development in practice; building community capacity and public health; uderstanding social research and evaluation; leadership, management and enterprise; therapeutic relationships for health care practitioners.
Entry requirements
Applicants should have NMC first level registration (previously known as UKCC parts 1, 2, 7 or 12), at least a second class honours degree in the cognate subject of Health and be able to evidence recent professional development. Applicants who do not meet this academic requirement are advised to undertake the Professional Profile Development module in order to apply for recognition of prior (experiential) learning. Applicants will also need to secure a suitable practice placement in order to undertake the course. Applicants need to have consolidated their pre-registration nursing outcomes and to have gained a deeper understanding in relevant professional practice. All applications should be supported by two references, either academic or professional. Satisfactory enhanced criminal history checks will be required by all applicants prior to acceptance on the course. Applicants whose 1st language is not English require IELTS 6.0 (with a minimum 5.5 in each component) or equivalent.
