Course summary
The Royal College of Music's Artist Diploma courses represent the highest level of taught postgraduate study. They are aimed at musicians who want to hone their skills by working intensively on particular areas of their artistic development as a prelude to entering the music profession. The course provides time for preparation of concerts, recitals and competitions, under the guidance of the RCM’s staff and instrumental faculty specialists. Students of Collaborative Piano develop all aspects of a professional accompanist's skills as a collaborative artist, including duo repertoire, repetiteur work and orchestral continuo. Places on our Artist Diploma programmes are only offered to students who have already demonstrated a high level of ability at masters level. All our Artist Diplomas focus on one-to-one provision and practical project work, tailored to your particular career aspirations. Final examination for the Artist Diploma in Performance takes the form of a concert, recital engagement or concerto performance.

Principal study options
During the application and audition process, you must select which instrument(s) you wish to specialise in for the duration of your course. On this course, you can choose from the following options:
Single specialism
Only one instrument is studied. It may be possible to study a further instrument formatively, but this will not contribute towards the qualification.
Instrument/specialisms
For all courses, you must select at least one specialism from the 'primary' list. For those studying primary/secondary pathways, two instruments may be selected – one from the 'primary' list and one from the 'secondary' list. Joint pathway students may select any two instruments from either list.
Modules
The Artist Diploma in Performance provides time for preparation of concerts, recitals and competitions, under the guidance of the RCM’s staff and instrumental faculty specialists.
Assessment method
Final examination takes the form of a concert, recital engagement or concerto performance.

Additional information
Auditions for all principal studies are available in London and by video audition. Our audition period runs from mid-November to late-December. The RCM also holds auditions at venues in Asia and the USA. Application deadlines, application fees and audition dates vary between venues. Some overseas venues also have an initial pre-screening process; please see http://www.rcm.ac.uk/apply/auditions/auditionlocation/ for details. We are unable to offer auditions for the following principal studies at our overseas venues: Percussion, Harpsichord, Fortepiano, Lute and other historical instruments requiring accompaniment on a harpsichord. We are unfortunately unable to offer Organ auditions at most of our overseas venues, although Hong Kong may be available upon request.

Sponsorship information
The RCM is able to support many students with scholarships thanks to the generosity of charitable trusts, companies, businesses, individual members of the public and legacies. Any student who auditions (via video or in person) for a place at the RCM will automatically be considered for a scholarship or study award; there is no separate application process. Scholarships are awarded on merit based on performance at audition.
