Our unique World Philosophies degree offers you the chance to engage with a diverse range of philosophical traditions from Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and Europe. This course will expand your knowledge and develop your critical understanding of philosophy in the context of a wider range of societies and historical eras than a traditional philosophy degree. You will investigate the origin, nature, methods, and limits of human knowledge; traditions of argumentation; as well as political and ethical systems of thought from a truly global perspective. This combined degree also gives you a solid grounding in Modern Standard and classical Arabic, as well as conversational ability in Egyptian colloquial Arabic. Intensive study of a wide range of Arabic language and literature is a compulsory feature of the programme. You will spend a year of study at a university in the Middle East or on an equivalent programme elsewhere.
