This degree will enable you to develop all the skills you need to devise exciting ideas, stories and formats and develop them into eye-catching visual media for a wide range of TV genres and platforms. Whether you're excited by Love Island, Emmerdale, Can't Pay, Won't Pay or one of Reggie Yates' hard-hitting BBC Three documentaries, you'll learn the crucial techniques of story-telling and narrative development that are so vital in today's TV industry. Award-winning media professionals – many of whom still work in the industry – will help you unlock the secrets of making memorable TV. You'll get practical, hands-on experience in camera operating, directing, presenting, sound recording, script-writing and editing. You'll work in our fully equipped TV studios, where you'll learn the art of being a vision mixer, autocue operator and floor manager. And you'll learn the key art of filming on location. You'll develop the twin skills of employability and entrepreneurship, enabling you to work as a freelancer or even set up your own production company. And we'll encourage you to spend a life-changing semester studying abroad, with partners in countries such as Australia, Germany and the USA. By the time you graduate, you'll have a fantastic portfolio of eye-catching TV content ready to show employers, helping you to get that all-important first foot on the career ladder. Placement opportunities We are one of only a few UK universities to build professional work placements into every degree. You'll complete two professional work placements, which will give you the chance to work in some of the top media companies locally or across the UK without taking a sandwich year out. Your placements aim to give you the edge over other graduates as you begin searching for that big career break. Draw inspiration from our recent students who have impressed employers during placements at shows like Come Dine With Me, Emmerdale and The Politics Show, as well as at household names like Working Title Films and Pinewood Studios. Graduate opportunities You'll graduate ready to work in a wide range of television roles, including general production, writing, camera and research roles associated with television organisations, freelance and entrepreneurial opportunities. Recent graduates work with the BBC, ITV and Sky, as well as a variety of independent production companies.
