Based on current practice and research in the Department, this course will provide you with in-depth knowledge and understanding of education, drawing on the disciplines of sociology, philosophy, psychology, political science, and history, to enable you to develop knowledge and skills in the academic study of education. **If you are particularly interested in inclusion, diversity and special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), the course offers a pathway that specifically focuses on this, enabling you to develop an understanding of a growing area of interest in the field of education. The use of outside speakers on the course, who are experts in the field and practitioners in a variety of educational disciplines, helps to demonstrate education in a real-world context.** This highly practical course has placements in each year, which will enable you to relate theory to practice and gain transferable, hands-on skills. Foundation Year courses have been designed for students who do not have the necessary academic qualifications needed to enter directly into the first year of a degree but who have the ability and commitment to do so. Once the Foundation Year has been completed successfully, you can then go on to complete your degree.

Assessment method

You will be assessed in a variety of ways, including: coursework, portfolios, essays, presentations, posters and digital outputs. You will also be assessed on placement by your tutor and placement mentor. There are no exams on this course.
