We combine this with a facility close to London, where you can study both on campus and on home. We believe this course prepares you for whatever you might face in the future. What will I study? MA Education is a pathway course, which means you choose your specialism in one of three pathways: MA Education, MA Practice education or MA Positive education. For both of these courses the first year is shared, and you can choose between them. MA Education This pathway will encourage you to consider education in all its forms, from formal learning and training to compulsory education. You will have the opportunity to meaningfully contextualize learning within your own area of practice or interest. It is a pathway designed to develop a holistic skillset, and you will explore theories of learning and teaching, current issues in education and educational research methods. MA Practice Education This pathway will allow you to study education in the context of practice. You will cover CPD, educating others in this context and applying CPD theory to practice. You will also delve deeper into research, supervising and mentoring others and self-reflection. This ideal for you if you are working within a practice related role. MA Positive Education The positive education pathway is designed to help you understand how to apply the principles of positive psychology to education, you will study topics such as interventions in education, self-care and mentoring, the promotion and introduction of wellbeing theory and its application to teaching practice, as well as dive into research and evidence based positive psychology. Career Prospects An MA in Education allows you to engage with a aspect of educational practice in depth, giving you knowledge and expertise that enables you to build confidence and inspire. Completing this course is also a springboard to further academic research, such as an EdD or PhD. Many of our graduates go on to become senior educators in primary, secondary and higher education, as well as published researchers.

Assessment method

Our course provides useful professional development opportunities for you if you are already working as a teacher, or a meaningful introduction to the field for those seeking a career in education who have opportunities to apply the learning in practice. The focus of your engagement with the assessment process will be negotiated with a member of the programme team to ensure that assessed work responds to your interests and career aspirations. Your second year of study will focus on the development of an extended work project. This assessment is an exciting opportunity to frame a significant piece of work in your area of interest with a view to sharing this externally. Entry requirements

Individuals with an undergraduate degree, typically 2.1 or higher, with an interest in pursuing a career in education. Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) to the value of 30 credits is available within the master's framework. It is possible to APL against either Capturing Professional Education or Mentoring in the Practice Setting/ Principles of Practice Education. It is not possible to APL against the research modules. Where APL is sought, there is a requirement that it must have been conferred within the last 5 years. If you already have a PGCE, you may want to consider MA in Education (Advanced Standing).
