Sound is everywhere, from speech and music, to traffic and everyday noise. Acoustics is about exploring the physics of these sounds and the psychology of how people react when hearing them. Acoustical engineering has endless applications, from designing loudspeakers in smart phones to creating spaces where audio is at its best. Where there is sound, there is the potential to improve it through Acoustical Engineering. For more than 60 years, Salford has pioneered acoustics teaching and research. Our acoustical and audio engineering degree will guide you through this creative area of science and engineering, through a suite of modules designed to embed theoretical knowledge and creative application, to help you become a world-class acoustic and audio professional. This Foundation Year entry route will prepare your skillset, so you're ready to study our full BEng (Hons) Acoustical and Audio Engineering degree. This pathway aims to develop your mathematics and physics knowledge, helping you to build the skills needed for undergraduate study. On successful completion of the foundation year, you'll progress on to the full degree, where you’ll expand your understanding of the mathematics and physics of acoustics, exploring audio systems, analogue electronics, digital signal processing and architectural acoustics. As you progress, you’ll shape your degree around your interests, choosing optional modules in areas such as speech, environmental noise and sound perception. Based in our Peel Park campus, minutes from central Manchester, you’ll use specialist acoustic laboratories like our anechoic chambers and learn from lecturers who carry out world-leading acoustics research, including R&D for the acoustic and audio industry. Our graduates have great prospects for a career in the acoustic and audio industries. Salford alumni have gone on to work with leading companies, including Apple, Arup, Bang and Olufsen, BBC, Bentley, Dyson, Dolby and Google.
