Course summary
The Nursing Foundation year will explore the theoretical aspects of health and nursing. You will examine key health and nursing concepts while having the opportunity to develop the academic and research skills required to enable you to succeed in your nursing degree. The course will prepare you to become a registered adult nurse and you will learn how to assess, plan and evaluate the needs of the patient with complex acute and long-term illness, promote health and wellbeing, and communicate effectively with professional colleagues and service users. You will learn to become an adaptable, flexible practitioner who will be able to lead care, supervise others and work in a demanding and rapidly changing environment. Upon successful completion of the Foundation Year, you will progress onto the BN Adult Nursing course at University Centre Shrewsbury.

Qualification requirements
Please note, as our BN (Hons) Adult Nursing University Centre Shrewsbury programme is subject to validation, successful Foundation Year students may be required to transfer to Chester for the duration of their BN Adult Nursing Degree. Applicants must have GCSE Maths and English at grade C (grade 4) or above, or equivalent. Other vocational qualifications at Level 3 will also be considered, e.g. NVQ, QCF Diploma. Our Foundation Year courses will help you to develop the skills and knowledge you will need to succeed in your chosen degree.
