Hartpury’s transformative Equine Dental Sciences degree is tailored to forge you into a skilled Equine Dental Technician. You’ll receive hands-on learning on the yard and in laboratories, developing technical skills and knowledge important for handling, caring for and assessing the dental health of horses. You will be assigned a BAEDT mentor during the latter half of your first year to enable you to develop your knowledge and practical skills out in the field on placement. Modules

Our modules are developed regularly to reflect student and industry demands, ensuring you’re well prepared to enter skilled employment on graduation. The majority of courses are comprised of both compulsory and optional modules, the latter of which you'll be able to choose from to suit your interests and career goals. Most courses also include work placement learning, to help you gain essential experience for your future. Modules include: Introduction to Equine Dentistry and Dental Instrumentation, Head and Dental Anatomy, Professional Development and Influence within the Equestrian Sector, Introduction to Equine Nutrition, Equine Industry, Equine Dental Examination, Equine Dental Pathology and Diagnosis, Routine Equine Dental Procedures, Business Management for Equine Dental Technicians, Equestrian Media Relations, Advanced Equine Dental Procedures, Applied Research Project, Sales, Negotiation and Customer Service, Creating Equestrian Content for Media Platforms and Developments in Equine Research. Entry requirements

Qualification requirements

All applicants will be interviewed to ensure this is the right course for you. A minimum of five GCSEs at grade 9 to 4, (or A* to C grades if relevant) or equivalent, to include Science (Biology or Chemistry or combined science), English Language and Mathematics. The minimum academic entry requirement for this programme is 72 UCAS tariff or equivalent providing this is combined with relevant experience. In addition to the above, applicants are required to hold a minimum of BHS Stage 2 care or Pony Club B test, or provide signature of a BHS Stage 3 Coach in Complete Horsemanship (UKCC level 2 or equivalent) or BAEDT Equine Dental Technician to confirm that the applicant is able to: o understand basic horse behaviour and normal health o handle horses inside the stable o carry out routine grooming tasks o maintain a clean stable and provide food and water o Lead a horse safely in a variety of environments and hold a horse for inspection o In the absence of supporting documentation to confirm the above, a practical assessment can be run alongside your interview. Previous learning towards a university-level qualification or relevant work experience may count as credit for this course. Students with non-relevant qualifications but with sufficient work experience or professional experience will be considered on an individual basis.
