Course summary
The Animal Science level four Certificate of Higher Education is offered via distance learning and is 100% studied online, full time and part time. There is an opportunity on completion of this certificate of progressing to level five study on campus for the foundation degree in animal science or the BSc honours degree in animal behaviour and welfare. This course provides the opportunity for students wishing to study via distance learning to develop core knowledge and key skills required for undergraduates aiming to, or already working in animal related industries. The programme enables students to study at home at a time that suits them best to develop a range of skills, personal qualities and attitudes necessary to work successfully within the field of animal science. The course allows students the opportunity to broaden their knowledge in the scientific principles of animal ethology, behaviour and physiology, and the application of this knowledge to animal welfare, husbandry and conservation Intakes for this course can be in September, January or May each academic year, with a roll on roll off format.
Modules
Compulsory modules include: Animal Nutrition, Introduction to Animal Anatomy and Physiology, Preparation for working in the Animal Care Industry, Introduction to Animal Behaviour, and Study Skills. Additional modules include: Management of Captive Species and Marine Biology.
Assessment method
Assessment is varied and suited to individual module online requirements and includes: Essays, presentations, written reports, case study reports, independent practical research/observations, research portfolios, seminar presentations.
