Course summary

This course prepares students for a range of careers in childcare at supervisory management level and can provide an appropriate pathway for gaining Early Years Teaching Status (EYTS). The course duration is two years full-time. NB. Students not currently in employment but with relevant work experience, will undertake 2 days per week work placement during the course.

Modules

The course is made up of both compulsory units, which all learners undertake, and specialist units that enable you to study particular areas in depth. Compulsory units: Level 4 modules - Learning in the Digital Age; Study Skills; Facilitating Children’s Learning; Inclusive Practice; Developing Child and Social Policy. Level 5 modules - Safeguarding Children; Reflective Practice; Managing Sessions; and Research Perspectives. Specialist unit - Independent Study

Assessment method

A range of methods are used including assignments, presentations, case studies and practical exercises in the workplace. A work related, problem-solving, research based approach is also used.

Qualification requirements

GCSE English and maths at grade C/4 or above (or equivalent) are also required Mature entrants can apply with no formal qualifications but must demonstrate appropriate experience, motivation and personal qualities with a minimum of three years relevant work experience and completion of a formal literacy diagnostic and comprehension assessment to assess academic capability.
