The Higher National Diploma Top-Up in Performing Arts (Dance) is a vocational course which expands upon students’ previous learning and training from the Higher National Certificate. The course further develops students’ technical skills and understanding of a range of contemporary and traditional genres. Building on learning in their previous studies, students will develop skills and knowledge through creative, technical and practical workshops, underpinned with relevant theoretical, historical and cultural reference.
Modules studied: • Creative Research Project • Working in the Performing Arts Industry • Jazz Dance • Ballet • Contemporary Dance • Commercial Dance • Dance for Musical Theatre
The programme is assessed mainly through practical performance and assessment; continuous assessment across rehearsal and development and evaluative interviews to assess personal development and contribution. The submission of written essays, evaluations, logbooks and presentations is also a part of the HND; learning research, academic skill and writing skill to ensure that students are equipped for higher level learning. Students will gain formative feedback verbally for both written work and practical assessment. Peer and self-assessment is an essential element of personal development which enhances the learning experience and allows space for personal evaluation.
