This programme gives you a comprehensive understanding of Business Intelligence, Negotiated Research and Systems Integration. The BSc Computing aims to develop technical skills, independent learning skills and the ability to demonstrate systematic knowledge and understanding. This course provides a thorough and broad education in computing for industry. Assessment tasks are linked to the learning outcomes of each module and are completed before the end of the module.
Examples of current modules- Business Intelligence This unit introduces students to a range of tools, techniques and technologies for acquiring data and processing this into meaningful information that can be used to support business functions and processes. The unit will examine the concept of business processing in terms of data capture, conversion and information output. Systems Integration This unit introduces students to enterprise business requirements, and the need and purpose of systems integration to support organisational goals. Students are expected together and review business objectives with the aim of developing a systems specification document. Negotiated Research This unit will enable students to further develop general and discipline specific knowledge and skills through extended research activity. After consultation and agreement with the tutors, the students will be required to undertake a Literature Review in the area of their choosing within the context of the programme studied; formulate a research proposal with research question/s and carry out the research as proposed.
A range of assessment methods are used and could be in the form of the following: • Proposal presentation • Literature review • Dissertation • Poster presentation • Written reports • Hands on skills assessment 50% seminar/lecture 50% self-directed learning
