Course summary
This course is accredited with British Psychological Society (BSP) and offers students the opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of psychology and in particular its application to sport, performance and exercise contexts. Through teaching and independent research, students will gain knowledge and skills related to pursuing a career as a psychologist specialising in sport and supporting athlete performance, health and wellbeing. The course develops a strong scientific understanding of the mind, brain, behaviour and experience and the complex interactions between these elements. A key aspect of this course is the opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience. Students will have the opportunity to gain sport and exercise psychology experience on campus and will also have access to a range of exciting opportunities, including completion of specialist short courses, professional certificates and work placements.

Year 1 - Introduction to Psychology Research Methods, Quantitative Research Methods, Applying Psychology, Conceptual and Historical Perspectives, Introduction to Learning, Psychology of Exercise, Health and Sport. Year 2 - Advanced Research Methods, Cognitive Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Social Psychology, Biological Psychology, Sport and Performance Psychology. Year 3 - Dissertation, Individual Differences, Applied Sport Psychology. Optional Units - Working with Teams, Cognitive Neuroscience, Advanced Developmental Psychology, Cognition and Emotion, Rehabilitating the Brain, Clinical Psychology, Positive Psychology
