TEF Silver
The University of Law has opted into the TEF and received a Silver award.
The course is a three year law degree with options that focus on government and politics. It is aimed at students who wish to pursue a career in the legal or wider public, central and local government sectors or the commercial sector, and who have an interest in government and politics . It has a practical focus, with employability integrated into the course. There is a high level of face-to-face tuition which for the law modules is delivered predominantly by professionally qualified lawyers. Students will study the key legal topics and related skills that are critical for the modern law student but also have a choice of options. The course is delivered over two semesters per academic year. The students study six modules per year. The course will deliver an insight into critical legal, government and political topics and develop knowledge and understanding of key concepts in a practical environment. Students will have practical issues raised and develop relevant skills of analysis, research, problem-solving, and communication skills so as to resolve those issues but also the relevant skills to be able to communicate them.
Course details
Modules
There are two semesters per academic year. Each semester is 15 weeks long; 12 weeks face-to-face tuition, one week consolidation/revision and two weeks to complete the assessments. Students study three modules per semester. All modules are worth 20 credits. The course starts with a one week freshers/induction week.
Assessment method
A range of assessment methods will be used. Some will be by examination (two hours, 10 multiple choice questions and a choice of two from six long form questions). Some will be by coursework (which may be essay, project report or portfolio) and some by way of oral presentation. This range of assessment methods reflects the practical nature of the programme and aligns the assessment with the learning outcomes of the programme. A mock assessment will be included.
