If you didn’t get the UCAS points to enrol on a computer gaming or digital arts degree, or if you’re returning to education or looking for a career change, this foundation year will help you develop the core skills and knowledge to be able to progress on to one of our undergraduate degrees in digital arts or computer gaming. Solent University’s digital arts foundation year covers key subjects such as animation, game development and modelling, and will help equip you with the knowledge and confidence to make informed decisions about your future direction. The learning path is designed to seamlessly integrate with our related degree courses and offers flexible learning experiences in the field of digital media. Successful completion of the programme will grant direct access on to one of our related industry-focused undergraduate degrees. You will be taught by passionate staff who are experts in their fields, with a wealth of real-world experience and knowledge. During your studies you’ll be supported in developing your game production, business and entrepreneurial skills, as well as working with coders and artists in the Video Games Academy. To aid study, you’ll have full access to Solent’s industry-standard facilities, including specialist labs, high-end dual screen computers equipped with industry software such as Autodesk, Adobe and Pixologic, and graphics tablets. You’ll also have access to a motion capture studio and lounge equipped with consoles and life drawing studio. This course has access to Solent's specialist facilities. Assessment method

Students are assessed entirely on coursework projects. There are no written or practical examinations.

We will consider mature students who haven't recently undertaken a formalised course of study at A-level or equivalent, but who can demonstrate relevant workplace or voluntary experience, indicating their ability to complete the course successfully. We will also consider overseas applicants in an equivalent situation to UK students (as outlined above) and who have been taught in English or have IELTS 5.5 or equivalent. We welcome applicants from a diverse range of backgrounds. Applicants who are not in possession of the minimum entry requirements but are able to demonstrate aptitude, enthusiasm and motivation will be considered on an individual basis and may be admitted subject to satisfactory interview and/or portfolio.
