Our Electronic Music Production & Performance degree covers everything you will need to build a career as a professional music producer/performer, including creative composition and artist collaboration, recording and mixing, and branding and promotion, Whether it’s drum’n’bass or future bass, techno or ambient, house or neo soul that you love, whatever your preferred genre or DAW, our course will give you the freedom to develop your own sound, while taking inspiration from a variety of artists and genres. With access to software and equipment from Ableton, Arturia, Elektron, iZotope, Native Instruments and many more at our purpose built music studios in Manchester, you will have the potential to explore and experiment with your tracks like never before. About Spirit Studios Spanning over four decades of iconic music history in Manchester, our early days as a commercial recording studio and rehearsal space saw the likes of local legends The Smiths, The Stone Roses, Happy Mondays, Simply Red and many more passing through our doors. Spirit Studios then became the first music production and sound engineering school in the UK (formerly known as School of Sound Recording), and since then we’ve continued to nurture the next generation of producers, engineers, artists and business owners. Assessment method
We pride ourselves on providing a variety of assessment methods; these are balanced between industry standards and an academic range that is aimed at varied student profiles and abilities. Some modules may include on overall portfolio, others may have several varied assessments that encompass practical and written elements. Students may work on a solo project or also have the opportunity to work collaboratively in class or within external partnerships. All portfolios and written material are submitted electronically via the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), practical exams are undertaken within studio or venue settings on a live basis. Feedback is delivered electronically directly to the student in a written and matrix format. There is opportunity to discuss your feedback in a one-to-one tutorial. You will also be invited to an interview, with subject experience and enthusiasm the primary basis on which applicants will be selected. European applicants may not be able to attend an interview in the UK; once your application has been processed, you should submit an e-portfolio, CD or DVD of your recent work by arrangement with us; this will be followed by a telephone interview.
