Gain the academic and practical knowledge and skills required to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council as a midwife. We offer you the best start in studying the art and science of midwifery. At Edinburgh Napier University you have the exciting opportunity to develop your knowledge and skills to ensure that the care offered to women and their families has a woman centred approach and prioritises the ethos of compassion and professionalism. As a midwife you will be recognised as an expert in supporting, advising and advocating for women and their families during pregnancy, childbirth and post-partum care. This course offers you the opportunity to develop clinical midwifery practice in a variety of healthcare settings and through simulated practice using our state of the art facilities. You will be supported by a team of midwife lecturers who have a wealth of expertise in both clinical practice and current research. Midwives are autonomous practitioners who practice in a multi-disciplinary care setting and midwifery is a very distinct independent health profession which possesses its own knowledge skills and competencies. Standard Qualification Requirements
Mature Students: We can accept 3 Highers at grades BBC, which must include Higher Biology or Human Biology and Higher English or a Literary subject*. National 5 Maths at grade C is also required. Please note 2 out of the 3 Highers must have been gained within the last 5 years and these 2 Highers should be in Biology or Human Biology and English or a Literary subject*. All other accepted qualifications are the same as above. Please contact [email protected] if you are unsure whether or not you would be eligible to apply. If Higher Biology is outwith the five years, we may be able to offer a refresher course, but you must still have 3 Highers at grades BBC or the other accepted qualifications listed above within the last five years. *Literary Subjects include: English, English Literature, History, Modern Studies, Religious, Moral & Philosophical Studies/Christian Theology, Psychology, Geography, Sociology, Health and Social Care, Law. Selection Day Requirements - There will be a selection day as part of the admissions process and all candidates must meet NMC requirements of good health and good character. Competition for places varies from year-to-year and achievement of the standard entry requirements does not always guarantee shortlisting for the selection day or a place on the course. Admission to the programme is dependent upon a satisfactory Protecting Vulnerable Groups Scheme (PVG) check. This will be conducted as part of the induction week. The cost of the PVG check will be paid by the University. Deferred Applications - Please note that we cannot accept applications for deferred entry for this course.
