The HNC in Computing will develop your technical skills through applied learning across a wide-ranging study of the computing sector – perfect if you want to pursue or advance your career in computing. The course starts each September and is awarded by Pearson. • This course provides a route into careers related to computing including software design, computer networking and more • You will have the opportunity to gain a CISCO CCNA 1 qualification during your degree • One-year qualification to be followed up with a HND and top-up degree • Taught at University Centre Farnborough, with modern facilities including our high quality computing suite with access to the latest software • You will enhance your knowledge, understanding and skills to set you up ready to enter into successful employment in the computing industry Computing is at the forefront of everyday life in the 21st century, evolving at a fast rate. The ability to adapt with the industry and to understand different computing systems could lead to a variety of interesting tech-based careers. At Farnborough, you will develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to succeed in an IT environment. Not only will you develop skills specific to IT, you will also develop behaviours for work, for example by undertaking a group project or responding to a client brief. As part of the course you will earn vendor qualifications including CISCO CCNA part 1, which is recognised by employers. An HNC in Computing will allow you to study key areas of computing before moving onto a Higher National Diploma in your second year, where specialist pathways are available. WHO IS THE PROGRAMME FOR? This computing programme is for those with a passion to study and work in the exciting world of information technology. You might currently be working in the sector already, studying a Level 3, A Level, or Access to Higher Education course; be returning to education after a break, or wish to transfer from another higher education institution. WHAT WILL I STUDY? The modules introduce you to the core concepts of programming and networking essentials including protocols, security and how they operate. You will develop an understanding of database design and development and improve on your knowledge of security, the risks and how a security breach can impact on an organisation. To demonstrate your management and research skills you will implement your own project.

The range of assessment methods used in this programme includes in-class tests, assessed practical work, assessed coursework/assignments, and formative assessment through assignment work feedback, practical demonstrations, project report, project presentation and examination. HOW WILL I BE TAUGHT? You will be taught in a variety of ways including lectures, individual presentations, practical’s, independent and group exercise instructions.
