Course summary

This degree allows you to combine your interest in linguistics with the study of Mandarin Chinese or Japanese. Two thirds of your modules concentrate on the structure, history and sociological aspects of the English language, and one third is devoted to studying your chosen language. You spend a year abroad in either China or Japan, developing your language confidence and experiencing life in another culture.

Qualification requirements

We especially welcome applications from mature students. We also particularly encourage applicants with some qualifications in mathematical and/or scientific fields. As the course contains a combination of scientific thinking, language skills, and mathematical reasoning, it may be especially suited to the personality of students who have enjoyed both mathematics/science and arts/humanities subjects.
