Course summary

This programme enables students to engage with the craft and creative practice of sound production applied to film, animation, television, new media, electronic games and visual art, as well as equipping students with the tools to develop a research project within this field. The course promotes production of original work, through individual or group-based research, that is conceptually-driven, aesthetically challenging and wide-ranging in its use of sound design and music production/compostion.

Modules

3 core modules in term 1: the investigative project; sound for the moving image 1; narrative 1. One core module and 2 elective modules in term 2: sound for the moving image 2; music for picture (theory and practice); choice of cross-school electives, subject to availability; visual sound (from silent cinema to contemporary moving image art; dissertation (Master's project).

Assessment method

Dissertation, coursework and projects.

Qualified teacher status (QTS)

To work as a teacher at a state school in England or Wales, you will need to achieve qualified teacher status (QTS). This is offered on this course for the following level:

Entry requirements

Good degree in a relevant area plus a show/sound reel. IELTS 6.5 overall (with no less than 6.0 in each component)
