Course summary

This master's programme in Advanced Physiotherapy is designed for qualified physiotherapists, whether trained in the UK or internationally, who wish to enhance their knowledge, skills, and expertise. The programme also supports internationally trained physiotherapists in adapting their skills to different healthcare contexts, including practice in the UK. For UK-based physiotherapists, you can choose between two enhanced practice modules or an alternative route in the first year. What will you study? Your module choices depend on your clinical background, prior education, experience, and career goals. The programme is flexible, allowing you to either study individual modules or work towards a full award. Contact the programme lead to determine the best modules for your development.   • Cardiac Stress Leader
  • Chest Reporting
  • Defecating Proctogram (subject to numbers)
  • Hysterosalpingogram Practice and Reporting
  • Mammography Reporting
  • MSK Reporting and Extended MSK Reporting
  • Upper GI/VF Practice and Reporting
Some workstreams can be adapted for paediatric radiographers. Contact the programme lead for details. After completing 120 postgraduate credits, you can proceed to the dissertation module. Part-time learners will complete the programme over three years, requiring 60 credits per year. Single-module learners can complete modules over five years. What about after university? Graduates often secure roles within the NHS or private practice, ranging from band 5 to 7 positions. Some progress to senior leadership roles or PhD studies. International graduates may return home to open their own practices or share their knowledge. The programme team maintains strong ties with practice and health authorities across the North West, contributing to ongoing professional development and keeping the curriculum relevant.

Entry requirements

- A recognised professional qualification in Physiotherapy, either from the UK or overseas. - A 2:1 undergraduate honours degree or equivalent in Physiotherapy. - Or a 2:2 undergraduate honours degree in Physiotherapy with at least one year of clinical practice, supported by references. ‎ ‎ ‎
