Course summary

Learn how economic decisions affect us as individuals and society as a whole. This Economics and Finance course combines studying economics with analysing financial markets and institutions As a member of the Russell Group, cutting edge research conducted by academics in the department feed into your modules. Our FinLab provides experience and training in the analysis of financial data. It includes a suite of Bloomberg terminals, used by traders. You'll gain the skills and knowledge to pursue a career in finance or economics. Graduate destinations include HSBC, Goldman Sachs, PwC and Bloomberg LLP. Key Features of this course:

Student Support You’ll be allocated a Personal Academic Tutor (PAT), who will be with you throughout your time at the University of Southampton, who can offer tailored careers advice. The department of Economics is based at Highfield Campus, our oldest and largest campus, located close to Southampton Common. It's the academic heart of our University and home to social events, sports facilities and our Students' Union.

Modules

You will study various topics covering the fundamental aspects of Economics and Finance. You can choose between a number of 'pathways' through the degree, to reflect your background and interests. Module choices in year one depend on whether you have studied economics at A level. Some of the modules you may study include Economics with Data; Dynamic Macroeconomics; Alternative Investments. Qualification requirements

We welcome applicants with other qualifications eg. European Baccalaureate. You will be expected to attain an equivalent standard to the A level applicant. As A level Mathematics is required for this programme, all equivalent qualifications also need an equivalent of A level Mathematics, grade B.
