Course summary
Advertising and Brand Design investigates how contemporary advertising and branding are being transformed by digital technologies. We develop brand communication, social media content, marketing strategy and interactive experience, alongside more traditional advertising campaigns. Students on the course will learn to create graphic communication for contemporary media platforms. They will construct stories that connect strategically across print, social and online channels to engage audiences and influence perception. Students will learn to work across the likes of; apps, digital print, online media and mobile games as well as print and more traditional communication formats.

Modules
Year 1 - Empower: The first year of the course is focused on the development of core skills and will help you understand key concepts & ideas related to Advertising & Branding. You will examine the historical context of the discipline, explore creative principles through an investigation of industry standard design processes and end the year with the creation of a full strategic campaign. Year 2 - Explore: In your second year, you will examine and challenge the conventions of your discipline and collaborate with other students in the department of Design Practice. You will choose from a selection of units designed to promote cross-disciplinary practice and examine emerging practice within our discipline such as Social Media content creation, audience participation and interaction & experience design. At the end of the year you will take part in a series of live projects with major clients such as WWE, Barclays, Shelter, MBNA Thames Clippers and Generator Hostels. Year 3 - Engage: Your third year provides an opportunity to personalise your practice and present your ideas to the world. You will write a dissertation and, with the support of your tutors, create a series of self-directed projects, giving you a opportunity to explore personal interests related to advertising and branding. In preparation for graduation, you will also collaborate with an industry partner and prepare a portfolio and the materials required to present your work professionally.
Assessment method
You will be continually assessed through preparation of written and project work. Assessment in the final year is through dissertation and portfolio.
