Course summary

This degree is relevant to anyone involved in teaching and learning with an interest in inclusive education. It offers teachers and other education professionals (such as teaching assistants and mentors) at any stage in their career - and working in any phase of schooling - a chance to develop their practice. The programme develops your ability to reflect critically on classroom practice. It focusses on advancing your pedagogical understanding as a reflective inclusive practitioner. You'll gain a wider comprehension of key issues in the field of inclusive education. You’ll also develop a critical understanding of research methodologies through the planning and conducting of a small-scale enquiry into an issue of your own choice. This research should lead you to evidence-informed innovation. Your research will further your understanding of your teaching practice and that of your institution. You can study face-to-face, online or a mix of the two. Blended study combines elements of online learning with intensive face-to-face learning on study days. This will allow you to fit your studies around your current commitments, regardless of your location. Why St Mary's? This programme builds on our long tradition of excellence in teacher education. As well as its flexible structure, the success of this degree lies in bespoke delivery and quality of teaching offered. You'll work with - and learn from - a team of lecturers with a background in teaching, management and leadership, as well as experience in research and consultancy. On returning to your school you'll be able to use your knowledge to drive effective change. The degree will allow you to apply your learning to practical situations within your own teaching context and begin to engage with contemporary educational debates. You'll have access to excellent online learning resources. You'll also have access to our dedicated library for education students, with numerous study spaces, IT facilities and a café.
