Course summary

This course explores the subject in detail, covering New Testament Greek texts (acts); Greek from scratch; New Testament theology (Romans); the book of revelation; doctrines of ministry and sacraments.

Modules

Core modules: biblical hermeneutics; theological enquiry and interpretation; theological research. Optional modules: the mission of justice and the theology of law; theological aesthetics; advanced Hebrew texts; Old Testament theology; Old Testament narrative; Hebrew from scratch; Jeremiah; New Testament Greek texts (acts); Greek from scratch; New Testament theology (Romans); the book of revelation; doctrines of ministry and sacraments; comparative ecclesiology; the doctrine of creation and environmental ethics; contemporary issues in theology; feminist theology; theologies of mission.

Assessment method

Most units are assessed by means of essays or projects of up to 8000 words. The two compulsory units are taught at the beginning and the end of the course: The first consists of sessions on Theological Enquiry and Interpretation while the second forms a preparation for the dissertation. This second unit is assessed by a dissertation proposal. The only examinations are for the optional units on the biblical languages Hebrew and Greek. The second part of the course consists of a dissertation of not more than 15,000 words; students must complete the first part of the course before proceeding to the dissertation. The dissertation is expected to provide evidence of a person's analytical, evaluative and creative abilities. The subject of the dissertation will reflect the topics covered by Part One of the course.

Entry requirements

You have a Degree in Theology (at least 2nd class) or equivalent; A score of 7 or over on the IELTS test for non-native English speakers. Students who complete 60 credits can attain a Postgraduate Certificate.
