Calling all budding animators! If you are keen to forge a career within the world of animation, regardless of your preferred medium, then look no further than UCA Farnham's renowned BA (Hons) Animation degree course. Established in 1972 by Oscar winner Bob Godfrey, ours is one of the best-known and highly-regarded animation courses in the world, with graduates going on to create such icons as Hey Duggee, Peppa Pig and Compare the Market’s Meerkats. Whether you want to make animated films using CGI, traditional drawing, oil on glass, sand animation or pixelation, you will be encouraged to follow your passions and aim high for your future career. Along the way, we’ll support you with our extensive knowledge, facilities, experience and industry contacts, providing everything you’ll need to become an innovative storyteller and artist.
In Year 1 you'll learn the fundamental principles and techniques of animation and the exploration of drawing for the expression of ideas. You’ll gain a practical understanding of computer animation, examining the various methodologies in creating digital content for animation. You'll also study movement and acting as a means of communicating character, mood and emotion, and undertake life-drawing sessions. This year will introduce you to key concepts and critical debates in media, visual and cultural theory. In Year 2 you’ll produce a professionally finished film, and study the concepts and advanced digital techniques relating to computer animation. You'll also explore the historical development of animation through its systems, institutions and practices, and the work of key practitioners. In Year 3 you'll produce your final animated film and undertake a dissertation related to your chosen area of practice.

Points of entry
The following entry points are available for this course:
- Year 1
The majority of our courses require a portfolio and we consider the strength of our applicants’ portfolios, as well as their grades. This means that whilst we have a standard entry criteria of 112 UCAS tariff points (64 UCAS points for 4 year courses) and a minimum of four GCSE passes (or equivalent) at grade A*-C and/or 4-9 including English, this should be used as a guide to what we accept. The average tariff that our students achieve is significantly higher than this standard entry criteria but we also occasionally make offers which are lower to students with a strong portfolio, and those who have faced difficulties that have affected their performance and who were expected to achieve higher results. We welcome applicants who are currently studying or have completed A-Levels, Extended Diplomas (BTEC and UAL), Foundation Diploma in Art and Design, Access to Higher Education, Scottish Highers, and IB Diploma. We will consider other Level 3 qualifications on an individual basis and we are happy to accept applicants with a combination of Level 3 qualifications. You can also check how many tariff points you have achieved using the UCAS Tariff calculator: https://www.ucas.com/ucas/tariff-calculator
