Course summary
If you want to enhance your training for employment in the performance and leisure horse industry, in fields of equine training, equine behaviour management and behaviour rehabilitation, this one-year top-up degree is for you. Explore the scientific and behavioural theory underlying training techniques, as well as the factors which affect normal equine behaviour, both on the ground and whilst being ridden in this progressive programme. With guidance from our expert staff, you will develop an understanding of equine behaviour and learning theory and how this is used to more effectively apply training techniques. Emphasis is placed upon establishing the links between key areas of equine rehabilitation including behaviour modification, biomechanics, injury and exercise physiology. Understanding natural behaviour and how this can be used to inform positive training methods is a key part of the programme. Assessment method
Assessments are designed to encourage both academic skills and skills valued in the workplace. They include a combination of coursework and examinations. Coursework may take many forms including: essays, reports, data processing, case studies, consultations, presentations, academic posters, seminar discussions, patient history assessments, critical reviews, portfolios of evidence and practical competency assessments. The examinations vary, depending on the nature of the module, but may take the form of essays, case study assessments and data handling questions. The balance of assessment by examination and assessment by coursework depends to some extent on the optional modules you choose. The approximate percentage of the course assessed by coursework and examination is as follows: Year 1 65% coursework 35% written exams
