Course summary

The BA (Hons) Business Management (Marketing) is aimed at students who have an interest in developing their knowledge of business and marketing, and particularly those who are looking to pursue a career in the business marketing area. Year 1 provides you with a good understanding of the foundations of business alongside the fundementals of marketing. Years 2 and 3 gives you a thorough grounding in the more specialist concepts and applications of marketing management. In particular students will be exposed to the relational nature of marketing and build an understanding of the primacy of the customer in the digital world. The programme provides the intellectual underpinnings required for a career in a rapidly changing work environment, a rigorous approach to self-awareness and personal development and a significant exposure to the world of work and its current demands through work experinece opportunities. The degree is ideal for those interested in a future career in Business or a career in Marketing. The programme offers students a thorough grounding in business and the more specialist concepts and applications of marketing management. Students will be exposed to the relational nature of marketing and how strategic marketing planning and marketing communications can aid the success of the organization in the international context. Students will have an opportunity to qualify for the CMI Level 5 Extended Diploma in Management and Leadership and gain an exemption from the Chartered Institute of Marketing for the Level 4 Marketing module within the Certificate in Professional Marketing. This is a good opportunity to develop the skills that are required to become ready for the workplace, while gaining a formal qualification and building a skills portfolio that you can show future employers. This degree offers an excellent grounding in business and marketing and will help students develop decision making and analytical skills as well as acting as a foundation for further study in business or marketing. Furthermore students gain valuable experience in elements of research, presentation and communication skills as well as building team work and problem solving skills, which should be helpful for future employment opportunities. The aim of the course is to prepare students for a career in business and marketing by developing in them the wide range of skills and attributes needed to equip graduates to become valued employees able to make an immediate and effective contribution to the workplace and to become responsible global citizens.

Course details

Modules

Students will study for three years with two semesters per year. In Years 1 and 2, students will study three modules in each semester, making a total of 120 credits per year. In Year 3 students will study one 40 credit module over 2 semesters and another 2 modules in each semester. Students may take an internship in the summer break before they enter their final year.

Assessment method

Assessment is designed to meet the programme and module learning outcomes both academically and professionally in formative form including the preparation and feedback from seminars, workshops, tests and presentations, as well as in summative assessment that contributes to the grade, including assignment, group work/studies, project and exam. In particular, as is usual in the sector, this programme involve a considerable amount of group work and group assessment, i.e., as much as 25% of the assessment takes this form.
