If you are looking for a career that offers the best pay of all the professions (and without the need to take postgraduate qualifications) and have an interest in science or engineering, then Financial Mathematics is the degree for you. Financial mathematics is concerned with the design, construction and maintenance of financial products. Following the recent turmoil in the financial markets, investment banks are already planning to recruit more properly skilled mathematicians.

Scottish Higher AAAB including Mathematics at A.
Scottish Advanced Higher AAB including Mathematics at A plus excellent Highers for entry to Year 2.
International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme 28 points with Higher Level Mathematics at 6 for entry to Year 1. For entry to Year 2: A total of 30 points with Higher Level Mathematics at 7.

We operate contextual admissions defined by our Fair Access Policy which may mean entry requirements are flexible. We accept a wide range of other qualifications from the UK, Europe and International countries. Please contact the Admissions Tutor for the programme for further information on the entry requirements for these.

As part of the Fair Access Process, the minimum entry requirements enable students who are within one or more of the categories below to be guaranteed an offer: Living in an area within the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation lowest 20% (SIMD20) Care Experienced, as identified on the UCAS Application form by ticking the relevant box.


English language requirements

Applicants whose native language is not English and who have not been educated previously in the English language must provide evidence of their English language ability to ensure they can cope with the demands of a Heriot-Watt programme taught and assessed in English.
