Art and Design (Fashion/Photography) (Top-Up) at City of Liverpool College University Centre - UCAS

Course summary

The BA (Hons) in Art and Design (Top-up) is a one-year course that offers two specialist pathways to choose from: Fashion or Photography. The course builds on students’ learning from level 5 study. Each pathway is delivered by its own team of industry-experienced lecturers who guide students in developing a high level of specialist skills, techniques and knowledge. Students identify and focus on their own area of specialism within their chosen pathway through a mix of advanced research projects, critical writing, and practical assignments and workshops, culminating in a dissertation and a final major practical project. The creative industries are increasingly dependent on self-employed practitioners and small businesses providing specialist services and products. As such, a key feature of the programme is the focus on professional development and work-related learning, preparing students for employment, self-employment, enterprise, and entrepreneurship.

Modules

Modules studied on the Fashion pathway: • Design, Research & Experimentation • Technical Skills for Fashion • Technical Development & Application • Work Based Learning in the Creative Industries • Project Realisation & Dissertation Modules studied on the Photography pathway: • Specialist Portfolio Project • Research Project • Collaborative Promotion & Brand Identity • Work Based Learning in the Creative Industries • Project Realisation & Dissertation

Assessment method

The programme is assessed through the submission of written essays, critical evaluations and logs/blogs, practical assessments, an independently organised public exhibition and a final project or the submission of a dissertation. Formative feedback will support student progression in both written work and practical outcomes. Self and/or peer assessment in convener/critique situations will be an element of all projects and the feedback from these will enhance student achievement and progression. The programme is worth 120 credits at Level 6. Assessment methods will vary according to the nature of the module and learning outcomes being assessed. Students with identified learning needs may, on the advice of support staff, be given deadline extensions, extra time to complete exams or alternative assessments where appropriate and where the learning outcomes being assessed can be measured fairly. We aim to provide written (and where possible, verbal) feedback within 3 working weeks, and use e-submission (via Turnitin for written assignments) where possible.
