The grading decisions are based on using the criteria in the assessment records and when a learner has completed all the assessment for a unit then a grade will be given which could be a Pass, Merit or Distinction. A range of assessment methods will be used depending on whether the learner has been asked to carry out research, analysis, working independently or as part of a team. Included in the assessment range are items such as essays, written reports, portfolios, presentations, examinations, in-class tests, PowerPoint presentations and journals. The grades from each formal assessment count towards your unit mark and your overall grade for the HNC.
