Course summary
Launch your career in the fast-paced media industry with our BA (Hons) Media Production degree. You’ll learn from experienced lecturers with professional industry and academic backgrounds, guest speakers, and industry experts and make useful contacts to get a head start with your work placements, gaining professional skills as you use our industry-standard facilities to create your media content. The Parkside Building houses cutting-edge facilities within the Media Centre, with classroom teaching on the media courses delivered in Millennium Point. You will have ample opportunity to immerse yourself in the practical aspects of programme-making and content creation, making documentaries, dramas, music shows and studio programmes for television, radio and other platforms. You will learn how to operate a TV studio effectively and how to develop and pitch your ideas, as well as put together live radio shows, documentaries, and podcasts. You will have the opportunity to work with student radio station Scratch Radio to develop your broadcasting and production skills and experience. As well as the key skills you’ll need to enter the profession, you’ll develop a range of transferable skills, which will help you gain employment in a range of careers. Previous media graduates have gone on to employment in careers such as researchers, producers, editors, reporters and more. Foundation Year The foundation year is designed to give you the opportunity to develop your academic and interpersonal skills while developing your subject knowledge further to support you to success on your academic path. By studying a foundation year, your first year will be spent learning a wide range of broad subject areas which then open up opportunities for you to specialise further in your next year – which would be the first year of a full degree programme.
