Course summary
Our BA (Hons) Journalism and Communications (with Integrated International Foundation Year) is a four year course, specifically designed to provide international students with the English language and creative skills before they embark on year one of a degree. Storytelling takes many forms, and on our new BA (Hons) Journalism & Communications degree course at UCA Farnham, you’ll learn how to tell a whole world of stories in a compelling and engaging way. Whether you’re aiming to become a journalist or work in the wider communications industry such as public relations, marketing or corporate or internal communications, you’ll gain the skills to make your mark. From the get-go, you’ll be encouraged to find exciting people with interesting stories and to tell them in your own unique way. You’ll be taught to produce journalism for different platforms – from apps, websites and magazines to television, radio, podcasts, and social media – and to find your own distinctive specialism such as culture, the environment, music, fashion, sport, politics or equality and human rights. With access to our industry-level facilities including a three-camera TV studio, a broadcast newsroom, radio studios and dedicated computer suites, you'll combine strong creative practice with technical skills that will underpin the extensive development of your academic and theoretical knowledge of journalism, public relations, and the global communications industry.
Assessment method
For our students coming from a non-UK educational background, UCA has launched an Integrated International Foundation Year, based at UCA Farnham to bring students from around the world to one hub of creativity. This year of preparatory study is designed to give you the skills you’ll need to start your degree in the best possible way – with confidence, solid knowledge of creative practice, study skills and the English speaking and writing skills you’ll need to succeed. You’ll explore a range of creative techniques and develop your portfolio, with your chosen subject in mind. We’ll work with you throughout the year to ensure you’re on the right track and give you the tools to achieve your highest potential on your degree.
