Accounting and finance are at the heart of all business operations. From huge service industries to micro businesses, the ability to manage, plan and account for money is the key driver of economic growth and the ultimate measure of business success. A degree in Accounting and Business will enable you to develop the skills to influence and inform business operations and strategy, drive policy, and deliver jobs, prosperity and wealth, opening the door to a wide range of lucrative careers. We'll give you a grounding in the two key branches of accounting – management and financial accounting – teaching you how to prepare business accounts and critically analyse financial decisions. We'll show you how businesses design and control their operations, exploring how economic factors affect business decisions. You'll study models for management and leadership, as well as gaining an understanding of how corporate governance works. You'll also get a grounding in the legal context for accounting and business, looking at the areas of UK and EU law that directly affect the legal structure and operations of businesses. Your lecturers will use their years of industry experience to bring accounting and business theories to life. Plus you'll gain professional work experience through your two professional work placements, experiencing daily life in your planned career and building your own network of connections for the future. Placement opportunities ​We are one of only a few UK universities to build professional work placements into every degree. You'll complete two professional work placements, which will give you the chance to graduate with up to three months' professional work experience without having to take a sandwich year out. You’ll complete a five-week professional work placement in your first year and a six-week placement in your second year. Recent students have completed placements at KPMG, Lloyds Banking Group, Citigroup, UK Tax Associates and the accounting centre of retail giant the Arcadia Group. Graduate opportunities You'll be qualified for a variety of roles in the economy including merchant banking, corporate finance, stockbroking and investment appraisal, business development and accountancy. You could also set up your own business, working as a consultant.

Additional fee information

We advise students to budget for the following in addition to annual tuition fees: Recommended and required reading lists will be provided at the start of your course. All the books and e-books are available from our Library to borrow but you may choose to purchase your own. We recommend £390* as an average annual budget for learning resources if you decide this is for you. *This figure is based on the Department of Work and Pensions course costs allowance 2015 Field trips may occur during this course and either fully or partly subsidised by the University. You'll need to include placement/s travel and associated costs too, however the University will contribute a standard amount towards your total expenditure. The University provides students with a £6 printing credit each academic year which can be topped up either on campus or online.
