Course summary
The Single Honours programme is a progressive one, building on a broad foundation in the first year to highly specialised work in the final year, including a dissertation on a topic of personal interest. With a degree in politics from Exeter you’ll gain a sound knowledge of the four principal areas of study: political thought, international relations, comparative government, and public policy. Modules in the first two years give you a basic grounding in these four areas. You’ll also gain a wider understanding of the world by focusing on both the theoretical and practical problems of politics through a combination of core compulsory modules and specialised optional ones. Your choice of optional modules increases each year to comprise 50 per cent of your studies in your second year and 75 per cent in your final year. The programme combines an academic grounding in the study of political science with access to current issues and practical experience.
