Course summary
Become a policy-oriented development economist in government, international development organisations, consultancies or universities. Learn how to: design and evaluate policy, informed by latest research and best practice frame complex development challenges, systematically and creatively communicate technical analysis clearly and coherently. As well as gaining a solid grounding in micro- and macroeconomic theory, you’ll learn to analyse contemporary theory, debates and evidence on a wide range of issues including: poverty and inequality human capital markets for labour land and credit public policy economic growth management of resource wealth trade and aid. Assessment method
You are assessed by unseen written examinations, presentations, a term paper, and a dissertation of 15,000 words.
Entry requirements
An upper second-class (2.1) undergraduate honours degree or above. Your qualification should be in economics and include intermediate-level microeconomics and macroeconomics. You may also be considered for the course if you have other professional qualifications or experience of equivalent standing.
