As an HR professional you will be expected to develop, advise on and implement policies relating to the effective use of staff in an organisation. You will ensure that the organisation employs the right staff in terms of skill and experience and that training and development opportunities are available to colleagues to enhance their performance and achieve the company's business aims. This course has been designed to help you to develop a critical understanding of human resource management theories and practice and the connections between human resource management and business strategy. Through studying this course you will acquire key skills in decision making and negotiation as well as the ability to influence and communicate effectively. You may wish to enhance your career prospects by securing a voluntary work placement. This is not a mandatory requirement of the course but is recommended to help you gain valuable work experience. Previous graduates have secured employment with ARUP, Gateshead Council, Tesco, Winn solicitors, NHS and Starbucks. A number of students have also progressed into job roles as trainee teachers within further education. Some graduates choose to continue their education and this course provides an ideal platform for further study through our MA or MBA qualifications.

Assessment method

You will learn through lectures, tutorials, seminars, group work, reflective accounts and research. You will be expected to devote approximately 12 hours per week to independent study as directed by your module leader. You will be assessed through research projects, presentations and assignments which analyse specific areas around the development of human resources and an appreciation of human resource practice.
