Course summary
Biomedical science is a rapidly growing field that combines the principles of biology and medicine to understand the human body's functioning and disease processes. The program integrates training in research, laboratory techniques, critical thinking, analytical skills, and communication skills. For over a quarter of a century, this course has been taught at Wolverhampton by researchers and guest lecturers from relevant fields. With the expertise of these individuals – their careers ranging from Hospital Consultants to Senior Biomedical Scientists, many of them practised in NHS pathology laboratories – you will be equipped with skills for future employment and research, or, if you are currently employed, skills complementary to your clinical laboratory responsibilities. The University of Wolverhampton's state-of-the-art research building will be at your disposal while tutor-led discussions in small group problem-based learning sessions explore clinical aspects of the course in depth. Focus on research methods and the undertaking of an independent research product may particularly prepare you for higher level study, leading to a PhD or Professional doctorate, in addition to supplying transferable skills for careers in industry. Please note: although this MSc is accredited by the IBMS, completion of this course does not allow you to practise as a registered Biomedical Scientist. To do that, you would need to have studied for the Accredited Undergraduate Award and completed your registration portfolio. Find out more about our BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science award. This course is accredited by the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS)
