Course summary
Most biological disciplines rely on analyses at the molecular level and the use of molecular biology to manipulate genes and proteins. Our MSc will train you to become an active and engaged researcher in this field. You’ll spend a large part of your course researching real biological problems in a research-active laboratory. You'll closely interact with your supervisor and becoming part of their research group. Our collaborative links with the Genome Damage and Stability Centre, Brighton and Sussex Medical School and Sussex Neuroscience will give you opportunities to experience cutting-edge research projects across many areas of modern bioscience. Our state-of-the-art facilities include the Sussex Centre for Advanced Microscopy.
Modules
We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2023/24. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to COVID-19, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum. We’ll make sure to let our applicants know of material changes to modules at the earliest opportunity. Core modules are taken by all students on the course. They give you a solid grounding in your chosen subject and prepare you to explore the topics that interest you most.
- Advanced Methods in Molecular Research
- Practical Techniques in Cell and Molecular Biology
- Current Topics in Molecular Cell Biology
- Life Sciences Masters Research Proposal
- Life Sciences Master of Science Research Project
Entry requirements
You should normally have a lower second-class (2.2) undergraduate honours degree or above.
