Course summary
Acting brings stories to life across theatre, film, television, and emerging platforms. This course is designed for aspiring actors who want to develop their performance skills while gaining a practical understanding of the industry. You will explore classical and contemporary acting methods, voice and movement, script work, and character development, while also learning how to adapt for stage, screen, and voice-over performance. With a focus on both creativity and professionalism, the course equips you with the tools to thrive in a fast-evolving performance landscape. Upon completion of your HNC, you have the option to progress to a one-year HND programme.
Modules
Module A: Process and Practice (Year 1) Assessment 1: Concept and Development (85 Credits) This unit covers the history, theory, and key techniques of stage and screen acting. You'll study methods like Stanislavski and Meisner, develop character and script analysis skills, and build confidence in voice, movement, and emotion through practical workshops. The unit also explores the social and professional contexts of performance. Assessment 2: Creative Project (35 Credits) You’ll apply your learning through a live or recorded project, involving research, rehearsal, and performance of a scripted or devised piece. Reflecting industry practice, this project takes you from interpreting a director’s vision to presenting to an audience, marking your first major step as a professional performer. ADDITIONAL COURSES: Free masterclasses hosted by industry professionals through Raindance Film Festival.
Assessment method
Assessment is through a series of assignments including research modules, hands-on practical exercises and group projects. Units are interlinked to replicate “real world” scenarios and offer the opportunity for students to build a range of skills to maximise employment opportunities.

Access to HE Diploma
Students under 21 years should ideally have GCSE English at grade A*-C (grade 9 – 4) and a full Level 3 qualification such as BTEC, A Level or an Access to HE Course. If you have industry experience, we can consider your application on a case-by-case basis. Students over 21 can apply as mature students providing they can demonstrate the ability (and experience) to study at the appropriate level. Employment history will be advantageous.
