Course summary

The course is vocational and practice-oriented, geared to people working (or aspiring to work) in libraries, archives, museums and other workplaces, such as business, government, legal, financial, media and publishing organisations, and other information and knowledge managers seeking a professional qualification. The course is taught by a combination of the department’s full time staff and external experts from library services and related domains. The significant contribution of external experts in to the teaching of this course helps keep it topical and oriented towards practice.

Modules

Information contexts: knowledge organisation; information and digital literacy; personal and organisational management. You also choose 2 optional 15 credit modules from: information and knowledge management; data management; designing the user experience; big data; cloud computing; linked, open data and the internet of things; machine learning and predictive analytics; social media and web science.

Assessment method

Assessment in most modules is through written coursework, portfolios, presentations and written exams. The supervisor and second marker will assess your dissertation.

Entry requirements

Honours degree or equivalent, with 2 years' work experience in a library. Non-graduates with substantial relevant work or other experience also considered. Students whose 1st language is not English require IELTS 6.5 or equivalent.
