Course summary

The World Health Organisation, the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations, the World Organisation for Animal Health and other organisations endorse the concept of One Health. It is about linking ideas, research and policies from multiple sectors to achieve better health outcomes. Whether you are from a medical, environmental, economic or social science background, at our world-class institution, we will teach you the necessary knowledge, understanding and skills to work in a One Health context and help improve health for all.   • Our online MSc One Health programme seeks to explore an integrative approach to human, veterinary and ecological health, recognising the importance of interdisciplinary collaborations and the interconnectedness of public health, environmental issues, veterinary and human medicine.

Examples include the world-leading research being carried out into eliminating rabies, the surveillance of anthrax in Africa, and research on Lyme disease in the Outer Hebrides. It is this ongoing research that inspires the innovative, multinational ideas running throughout our multidisciplinary programme.
  • Throughout the MSc One Health online programme, we also raise awareness of cultural and societal factors that influence how One Health approaches are translated into practice.
PROGRAMME STRUCTURE PgCert Year 1: 3 x 20 credit core courses PgDip Year 1: 3 x 20 credit core courses Year 2: 3 x 20 credit optional courses MSc Year 1: 3 x 20 credit core courses Year 2: 3 x 20 credit optional courses Year 3: 1 x 60 credit dissertation The first year of study will explore and examine the value of the One Health framework, explore major techniques to measure health of populations and introduce zoonotic diseases, one of the core subjects of One Health. During the second year, you will be able to choose courses in an area of special interest. The third year will allow you to gain in-depth knowledge in your area of special interest through a research project. Throughout each course you will be assessed in a variety of ways which could include essays, discussions, blogs, online presentations, interactive quizzes, assignments or group work. Details of these assignments are found in your induction. The duration of this programme is 2.5 years - 6 years taken on a part-time basis. To be accepted for this programme, you must have: At least a 2:1 Honours degree or equivalent in a relevant subject (i.e. Biosciences, Medicine, Veterinary, Public Health, Environmental Sciences, Social Sciences, Economics) from a recognised institution. Please include a curriculum vitae and supporting statement with your application.
