Course summary

Design the future. You'll combine creative thinking, real-world skills, and sustainable design as you begin your journey to becoming a qualified architect. Do you dream of becoming an architect, helping design the way people live, work, and connect? On the BA (Hons) Architecture course at Leeds Beckett University, you'll explore architecture as both a creative act and a powerful social force. You'll think critically, design boldly, and respond to real-world challenges, developing ideas that reimagine places, identities, and communities. At the heart of this architecture course is studio practice. This is where concepts become architecture. You'll sketch, model, test, and refine your ideas using a rich mix of drawing, digital technologies, and hands-on making, transforming imagination into purposeful, responsible design solutions. From climate-responsive architecture to the cultural and social impact of the built environment, you'll investigate how buildings can shape a more sustainable and equitable future. As part of this architecture degree, you'll:

  • Tackle ambitious, real-world design briefs addressing sustainability, climate change, and architecture's social impact
  • Develop creative and technical knowledge and skills in architectural design, model-making, building technology, history, and global theory
  • Understand the environmental, cultural, and social forces that influence places and spaces
  • Build a bold, professional portfolio through studio projects, live industry briefs, and guest lectures
  • Learn within an energising studio culture, where creativity, technology, theory, and problem-solving collide

Through seminars, guest lectures, site visits, and live client projects, you'll experiment with your ideas beyond the studio and gain first-hand insight into how architecture operates in the real world. In your first year, you'll study alongside students from our Interior Architecture and Landscape Architecture courses, creating a vibrant, collaborative, multidisciplinary environment that mirrors how architects work in practice.
