our Learning Disability Nursing course provides you with the necessary exposure to placements within the NHS, private and voluntary sector. It is our aim to provide you with the necessary tools to enable you to learn to work effectively within an interprofessional team and with service users plus their carer’s. Over your 4 years with us you will spend 50% of your time with us in the university and 50% of your course time out in practice settings. Our integrated course design supports to develop you to be the best learning disability nurse you can be. Our modules involve people who have a learning disability within the teaching team via our university SUCCESS group. On successful completion of the course you will enter the Nursing and Midwifery Council register as a Learning Disability Nurse with an Hons degree.Working as a qualified Learning Disability Nurse is a rewarding and fulfilling career option. If your aim is to work with people who require various levels of empowerment and support then our course will provide you with a good mixture of practice centred opportunities to achieve your goal. Employment opportunities after you complete your course are excellent with a wide variety of job prospects available to you. Our graduates have recently secured employment as community nurses, working in forensic settings and within nursing homes to name a few. Services for people who have a learning disability are changing and its exciting to be part of this change. It is our aim to provide you with the opportunities to enable you to build your own career pathway as a Learning Disability Nurse. Please note: The first year of this course will be taught at Wolverhampton City Campus, followed by three years at Walsall Campus.

Qualification requirements
Prepare for foundation condition: All offer holders who accept the University of Wolverhampton will be required to attend a one-day Prepare for Foundation programme. This programme is designed to introduce you to studying a health professional course, answer your questions, meet staff and fellow students. You will take part in a variety of subject related activities to help you prepare for your course and kick start your academic experience with us. Don't have GCSE English and/or Maths? Take our Equivalency Assessments We understand that not everyone is able to achieve GCSE Maths and English for a variety of reasons. Our equivalency assessments provide an opportunity for you to further your English and/or Maths skills ready for your studies, as well as being able to meet part of the entry requirements for many of our undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Our online equivalency assessments are free of charge and accepted as the equivalent to a GCSE for the majority of our courses, however applicants of Initial Teacher Training courses will need to sit an on-campus equivalency test which costs £35 - visit our website for further information www.wlv.ac.uk

Free Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) and Occupational Health Check: Due to the professional nature of this course you are also required to complete a Declaration of Health and Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check. We will coordinate both of these non-academic conditions with you should you accept an offer with us. There will be no cost for the DBS this is free to applicants who have secured a Conditional offer and have chosen to study at the University of Wolverhampton.
