Course summary
This MA is for you if culture, technology, power and business excite and intrigue you. You study cultural industries, institutions, texts, identities and practices from a critical perspective. You’ll explore the meaning of culture as politics and philosophy, and also:
- explore cultural innovation, promotion and value in a fast-changing world
- understand how business, technology and the law are redefining cultural practices today
- gain professional skills needed by cultural and creative organisations in the private and public sectors.
Modules
We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2023/24. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to COVID-19, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum. We’ll make sure to let our applicants know of material changes to modules at the earliest opportunity. Core modules Core modules are taken by all students on the course. They give you a solid grounding in your chosen subject and prepare you to explore the topics that interest you most.

Entry requirements
Degree requirements: You should normally have a lower second-class (2.2) undergraduate honours degree or above. Subject-specific requirements: Your qualification should be in media, film or another relevant social sciences or humanities subject. You may also be considered for the course if you have other professional qualifications or experience of equivalent standing.
