Course summary
The programme has an excellent industry reputation, working closely with key global travel and tourism organisations all over the world. This includes airlines, airports, tourism destinations, hotels, tour operators, tourism venues and travel agencies. By making the world our lecture theatre, students have the opportunity to take part in a range of exciting international field study experiences which include visits to London for World Travel Market, Paris, Switzerland, Qatar, Malaysia and Singapore. Providing students with inspirational opportunities to see behind the scenes at major global travel destinations including trips on board the Qatar Airway’s Dreamliner at Cardiff Airport. There is a strong focus on international internships with all students undertaking at least two industry placements. This encourages them to develop cutting edge guest service and industry skills through a range of unique opportunities with leading travel and tourism organisations all over the world including tourism destinations across Europe, the exclusive Little Nell Hotel in Aspen Colorado in the USA and on Royal Caribbean Cruise Ships. As ABTA educational partners, students at UWTSD Swansea benefit from networking with inspired industry based guest speakers. This is supported by close relationship with alumni, many of whom have highly successful careers in the industry & regularly return to share their experiences with current students to ensure they become the industry leaders of the future.

Please note that the Level 4 exit award is titled: Certificate of Higher Education Travel, Tourism and Leisure Management. Year Two – Level 5 (Dip HE) • Changemakers: Building your Personal Brand for Sustainable Employment (20 credits; compulsory; Graduate Attributes Framework module) • Changemakers: Creativity and Value Creation (20 credits; compulsory; Graduate Attributes Framework module) • International Travel Operations (20 credits; compulsory) • Operations Management for Tourism, Leisure and Events (20 credits; compulsory) • Professional Placement and Enterprise Project for Tourism, Events and Leisure (20 credits; compulsory) • Sustainable Global Tourism (20 credits; compulsory).
Assessment method
The programme will be assessed through a structured mix of practical assessments, placements, case studies, events, management reports, presentations, essays, travel reviews, DVDs/videos, travel blogs, feasibility studies, projects, bid pitches and the opportunity to plan, organise and assess travel and tourism trips & experiences. Assessments will wherever possible be designed to develop professional skills as well as developing critical thinking, leadership, management, guest service and team work in preparation for industry careers. The programme does NOT include examinations.
