Course summary
This Foundation degree is designed to develop your interest in Game Art to a professional level, so that you will be able to work in the games industry, one of the largest, most diverse and dynamic sectors of employment in the world. At level 4, you will share three of the four modules with the FdSc Computer Games Design and Development students. This enables you to learn the fundamentals of design, rigging, animation, 3D modelling and texturing. Your fourth module starts your specialisation with the fundamentals of game art. At level 5, you will share three modules with the FdSc Computer Games Design and Development programme (emergent technologies, work placement and advanced 3D modelling). You will be delving deeper into the game art specialisation through advanced game art practices, game environments and tech art. Your Game Art programme will enable you to specialise in modules focusing on the techniques, industry software and professional practices that will help you develop into being a Games Artist, ready to join the industry either at a studio or as a freelancer. The programme has been designed to allow elements of collaboration with other programmes, such as the Media Production courses and the successful Specialist Make-Up Design cluster. University Centre WISE has also developed its own Games Studio, Get Kraken Games @UCWISE, which will give you varied opportunities to become part of real projects, further enhancing your specialist skills as well as your professionalism and interpersonal skills. You can also extend this Foundation degree to a full Bachelor’s degree with us here at University Centre WISE, by “topping up” to our new one-year BA (Hons) in Game Art and Production (Level 6). If you love playing sport, you could continue to play at an elite level whilst studying.
