Course summary

Fashion Business and Promotion is for those students that want to work in the fashion industry, but not making or designing clothes. Our modules enable you to graduate from this course with a diverse understanding of the fashion industry. By the end of the second year, you will have covered a range of subjects including buying and merchandising, in store experience planning, implementing a marketing and PR campaign, and running a live event, ready to focus on your strengths and career aspirations in your final year. You will develop an understanding of the global marketplace and consumer and how the industries focus on circular economy and sustainability. In Year 2, you will have the opportunity to undertake a work placement or a collaborative project with other students from the School of Fashion and Textiles. Throughout your time with us you will explore new creative skills in packages such as Adobe Creative Cloud. You will develop business and research skills, applying theories and techniques as well as enhancing your presentation skills on industry-led briefs which have been supported in recent years by Gymshark, Selfridges, Superdry and Next. You will be inspired by our recent alumni guests and supported by our dedicated academic team that have an extensive range of industry experience as buyers, designers, artists and marketeers. Professional Placement Year This course offers a professional placement year. This allows you to spend a whole year with an employer, between the second and third years of your degree, and is a great way to find out more about your chosen career. Some students even return to the same employers after completing their studies. The University will draw on its extensive network of local, regional and national employers to support you in finding a suitable placement to complement your chosen area of study. If you do not find a suitable placement, you will be automatically transferred back to the standard, non-placement version of the course. Please note that fees are payable during your placement year. For details, visit the course page on the Birmingham City University website.
