Course summary
Electrical and Electronic Engineering allows you to work towards meeting the educational requirements of an electrical incorporated engineer. The qualification contains up-to-date and relevant electrical subject content and skills. During the qualification, you will develop knowledge, understanding and skills in a range of core Electrical and Electronic Principles, Engineering Science, Engineering Maths and Engineering Design modules. This course has been developed in collaboration with our external partners to ensure that your education is relevant and up to date. Emphasising the importance of work-based experience, you will have the opportunity to apply your knowledge to existing companies and gain valuable skills that will inform your future practice. You will be expected to complete a level of self-directed study throughout the duration of this course, and we require you to commit a dedicated amount of time to your learning both in and of college. Your practical skills will be further developed by completing a wide range of practical activities and experiments undertaken during your studies. You will be able to progress the ability to apply analysis and synthesis skills to the solution of electrical and electronics engineering problems. Our laboratories are of an excellent standard and include the highest specification jet engines, soldering irons and test equipment such as multimeters, power supplies, digital storage oscilloscopes, function generators, spectrum analysers to build and test electrical, analogue and digital circuits. HNC Pathway: Core Modules: Engineering Design, Engineering Maths, Engineering Science, Managing a Professional Engineering Project and Electrical and Electronic Principles, Option Modules: Electrical Machines, Electronic Devices, Instrumentation and Control, Quality and Process Improvement, Computer Aided Design and Digital Principals. HNC Modules + HND Modules: Research project, Further Maths, Professional Engineering Management, Industrial Systems, Analogue Electronic Systems, Utilisation of Electrical Power and Industrial Power, Electronics and Storage.
Assessment method
The programme uses a variety of assessment techniques to ensure that you can demonstrate the range of learning outcomes. Subject knowledge and understanding is assessed through examinations, coursework essays, coursework reports, individual or group presentations, written evaluations, debates and posters will be used as other forms of assessment. These also assess a range of transferable skills, including confidence in academic written communication.
